Taking listeners to a place where country blues, Appalachian string band music and gospel come together in powerful and unexpected combinations, Michael Tarbox is a smokey-voiced singer with a pure backwoods style. He's also a killer slide guitarist, and possesses an uncanny ability to make any song he plays sound new, as if it were somehow being sung for the first time. His band, The Tarbox Ramblers, has released two CDs on the Rounder label, toured with Robert Plant, and made a name for itself with a rough-hewn, direct sound that's been praised by Rolling Stone, The New Yorker and NPR's All Things Considered.
Tonight, in a special CD release show, Tarbox will play The Ramblers' music along with selections from his new solo album, "My Primitive Joy." The album's a gem, and we're eager to welcome Tarbox back to Wellsville for what promises to be a great show.
