LYNN "BUD" CARLIN - WORKING SUPERVISOR 585-596-1716
The Village of Wellsville Public Works Department maintains the Street system using a series of pavement management techniques. Residents are encouraged to SLOW DOWN when approaching crews working on the streets for the safety of all. The Streets crew is made up of your neighbors and friends - - help keep them safe.
WINTER - - Winter snow is removed using the Village plow trucks. The streets are applied with a sand/salt mix to improve traction and decrease the buildup of ice. The sidewalk snow piles are removed approximately twice a year on Main Street. Motorists and pedestrians should be aware that the goal is to keep the streets passable, but that care must be exercised by the public when utilizing these thoroughfares during the winter months as slippery sections may exist.
Street plowing and sanding will commence on an as needed basis. The Village DOES NOT have a bare road policy, so there may be times when extra caution is needed by drivers. Be sure that all cars are off the street as per normal winter regulations.
Sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owner and are expected to be cleared of snow and ice. Surplus snow will be removed from the Main Street Business District as time and funds allow. The sidewalks in the Business District are the responsibility of the building owner or their tenants as agreed upon by them.
SPRING - - After the snow has stopped, the Village owns and operates a sweeper throughout the Village Street system. Most streets are swept a least twice in the spring. Curb repair and filling potholes that have appeared during winter months and spring thaw is a constant effort during these months. Residents are reminded NOT to put lawn clippings or other debris into the street, as it eventually clogs the storm drainage system.
SUMMER - - summer is the time to repave streets and correct storm drainage issues. Culverts, catch basins, and related items are checked and cleaned as needed. Smaller streets may have a chip seal coat applied, while larger streets receive reconstruction efforts of milling and new asphalt. The street system is on a rotating basis of maintenance that is developed through the Micro-Paver computer program and the historical knowledge of the Public Works crews. Residents are reminded NOT to put lawn clippings or other debris into the street, as it eventually clogs the storm drainage system.
FALL - - Leaf pick-up is a primary function during the fall months of the street crews. The pick-up usually starts in early October and lasts into the second week of November. Residents must not put leaves into the streets, but rather on the lawns directly adjacent to the curbs. Putting leaves in the streets causes catch basins to become clogged very quickly and can lead to flooding problems during major rain events.
